About Alan

I started my career in 1965 at the switchgear division of Associated Electrical Industries (AEI) in London, where I served as an apprentice/sandwich student in conjunction with the City University. I graduated with a Second Class Honours Degree (BSc) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 1970.

I am a member of the Institute of Scientific and Technical Communicators (ISTC) and I have worked as a Technical Author writing technical documentation since 1972.

The companies I've worked for over the years, direct and/or freelance, have been involved in the design, development and manufacture of products for a number of sectors. All covered some aspect of mechanical, electrical or electronic engineering and all required technical documentation to support their systems or products.

Unfortunately, I reached retirement age in October 2011, right in the middle of a major recession, and the plummeting pension annuity rates left me no choice but to carry on working. Fortunately, I rather enjoy what I do.
