Home Working Hideaways

Running your own business-start up can sometimes feel like the only thing you do. You pour all your energy into working as hard as you can to make it a success, and this can involve long hours, intense concentration and more time spent at your home office desk than with your nearest and dearest.

Sound familiar? The iHubbub team know all about the difficulties of coming up for air from your freelance business and reconnecting with your personal life, but we also know how important it is that you do take a break from time to time.

With this in mind we've compiled some amazing getaways for you and your partner to escape to, so go on: relax, refresh and recharge!

The World’s Best Wine In Tuscany

A glass or two of fine wine is perhaps the best way to take a break from the stress and strain of business worries and Italy has many of the oldest vineyards worldwide (in fact it is now the largest wine producing country). If you and your partner fancy yourselves as wine connoisseurs, want to brush up on your skills or just learn the basics to skilfully navigate a wine list, there’s no better place than Tuscany, one of Italy’s most renowned wine regions.

Find a new favourite tipple, or at least have fun trying, as your taste buds explore the Tuscan countryside. Try the famous wines that reside there, including San Gimignano, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile de Montepulciano, and different types of Chianti. Once you’ve explored the countryside discover the enotecas (wine bars/shops) on the lively streets of Siena and Florence.

Staying in the pretty village Bettolle gives you a good base for seeing the area. Medieval house Vecchia Fattoria used to be one of the Grand Duke of Tuscany’s richest estates. Its lovely old wrought iron gates lead straight in to the main square where you’ll find several good restaurants and shops. If you're driving then it only takes around 45 minutes to get to both Florence and Siena, and if you visit Montepulciano then you can immerse yourself in some of the area's family-run wineries, as well as discovering one of Tuscany's most full-bodied red wines.

Definitely one for home workers looking to de-stress!

Tuscany Now offers Vecchia Fattoria which can sleep between 8 to 11 people. Prices from £2680 per week in February.

Madrid For Food Lovers

There is nothing more romantic than sharing and experiencing new foods. Tapas and the action of 'ir a tapear' (going out for tapas), have increased Madrid’s standing as a serious culinary capital and is the perfect way to start a culinary tour of the city.  For a treat have a taste of spicy chorizo, lechona (roasted suckling pig) or a traditional tortilla, and for a Spanish delicacy you could try a cocido, which is a dry lamb, veal and chickpea stew, sprinkled with pieces of lard.

To find a whole host of tapas bars in Madrid head for the barrio of La Latina or the streets around Plaza Mayor. Here you can meander between bars and experience an abundance of tastes and sensations without having to troop all around town.

The bars and restaurants of the various branches of the Museo del Jamón also offer a great opportunity to try different meats, and the markets - such as the ancient El Rastro - are good places for sampling charcuterie along with other gourmet foods like olives, honey and cheese.

In the heart of the city is The Hotel Preciados, a modern boutique hotel in a restored 19th century building. Its soundproof rooms are quiet and clean and guests are treated to a free minibar. London City Airport has eight weekly flights to Madrid operated by British Airways.

Double or twin rooms in the Hotel Preciados start at around £98 for one night.

Outdoor Adventure In The Forest Of Dean

A glorious stretch of ancient oak woodland that stretches out from the Wye Valley across the mighty River Severn, the Forest of Dean is an adventure playground of rivers, rocks and forests. Whether gentle walks or a more action-based adventure are your thing, this is the perfect place to forget work and have fun in the fresh air with your loved one.

Climbing, mountain biking, abseiling, kayaking, gorge scrambling and hill walking are just a few of the opportunities available for getting muddy!

Food lovers will not be disappointed as stopping for lunch is likely to be one of the best parts of the day. Try ‘Stinking Bishop Cheese’ alongside a ‘Freeminer’ beer, or spend time sampling some of the amazing food and drink produced from local farms, breweries, vineyards, and orchards.

Having enjoyed all that fresh air, relax in your own wooded sanctuary in one of Forest Holiday’s luxury treehouse cabins which are both cosy and romantic. It has everything you need to hlep you chill out, including an outdoor hot tub (perfect for a glass of bubbly under the stars!) plus a flat-screen TV, a log-burning stove and under-floor heating inside.

Forest Holidays offers luxury log cabins in the Forest of Dean starting from £366 for a four-night break in February.

St Anton For Après-Ski Appreciators

Relaxing together at Valentine’s doesn’t have to mean sitting on a beach all day. If your idea of a great time together means getting active and hitting the bars for fun nights together, St. Anton is a great spot with great skiing, soft snow and a big nightlife.

Perfect for escaping to a beautiful mountain-top world, the region offers slopes for all ski levels, as well as plenty of guides who can take you exploring the nearby mountains. After a day on the piste you can soak up the alpine nightlife together at the infamous Moosewirt and Scotty’s.

In the middle of the village sits Chalet Hotel Rosanna, and from there you can take a short stroll to the main ski lifts. These whisk you up to some of the finest skiing in the Austrian Tirol. You’ll receive a warm welcome in this traditional style chalet, with its ornately carved ceilings, rich fabrics, comfy sofas and wooden furniture, making this ideal for a rustic couple’s getaway.

It’s perfect for recuperating from a hard days skiing and is centrally located for a night on the town together.

Mark Warner offers Chalet Hotel Rosanna for £845 per person per week (leaving 10th February). This covers flights, transfers, dinner and wine, as well as ski hosting and lift pass collection.

Stonehaven Bay For Sun And Wildlife

For gorgeous natural beauty, Tobago’s golden beaches, coral reefs, lush rainforests and emerald hills can't fail to impress any couple looking for sheer escapism. The island is home to the Main Forest Ridge, the oldest forest reserve in the Western Hemisphere, along with a wealth of wildlife, including several species of butterflies, the agouti, armadillo, opossum, iguana and over 200 bird species.

The mile of sand that sweeps across Stonehaven Bay on the west coast is perfect for lazing on, before swimming, kayaking or snorkeling in the bright blue waters. For those keen to explore and enjoy a spot of sightseeing, the island's picturesque capital of Scarborough and the famous Fort King George are not far away.

Try The Villas at Stonehaven for a relaxing luxury retreat; it's set among lush tropical gardens with panoramic views over Stonehaven Bay. If you can tear yourself away from swimming in the infinity edge pool, the resort can organise activities including diving, bird-watching, golf, rainforest hikes and deep-sea fishing, whilst beauty treatments can be enjoyed in the privacy of your own villa.

The Villas at Stonehaven start at £2391 per week for a villa sleeping up to seven guests through CV Travel.
