Starting a business in 10 days

Business plan

Trying to start a business and trying to make it profitable in a matter of weeks is almost close to impossible but it can be done. Here’s a list of what you need to focus on for the first 10 days of your business.

Day 1 – draw a business plan

It may be written on a napkin or can be a highly developed 30 page document of your business plan is critical. Layout everything, from what your business is about, what is for and what are your plans. This business plan is essential especially when presenting to investors later on.

Day 2 – study the market

Learn how your products and services compare to the available in the market. Who are you market and what are the regulation and licenses that you need to apply for? Who are your competitors and what are their strategies? As valuable as research and pre-planning could be, don’t over think or over plan. Try not to stay in your head too much.

Day 3- build your brand

A brand identity or the name of your company and the logo fetch instant legitimacy. In almost all cases, the business will need a website and a social media presence to solidify their brand. If you think your business, if you think that this does not apply to your business then you’re wrong.

Day 4 – incorporate

The nature of a startup dictates the extent to which it should relay to an attorney to incorporate trademark products, agreements, etc.

Day 5 – set up a lean machine

Keep your overhead as low as possible in the launch or reduce unnecessary furniture by working from your garage or perhaps an extra room in your house. Labor is expensive, so if you can enlist interns they will benefit from the experience and the required amount time for their on-the-job-training at the same time you will minimize your expenses and still get the help that you need without paying for anything.

Day 6 – tell everyone in your network that you’re in business and have something unique to offer

Word of mouth can spread the name of a business like a wildfire. Never under estimate the power of conversation. Especially when you have blogger friends who can help you promote your business over the internet that would be very helpful.

Day 7 – work the media

Media relations are a priority to stimulate quick and substantial evidence.

Day 8 – fake it to make it

Think big and act like you belong to fulfill your self-proclaimed proficiency.

Day 9 – work on your business

Work hard on your business, but when the day to day load becomes too heavy, it’s time to move indirect income generating tasks to the back burner to focus on earning income first.
